St. John
Luxury Villa Rentals
The smallest of the U.S. Virgin Islands is actually big on vacation delights. The fact that you can only get here via boat or ferry helps make St. John villas truly exclusive havens from which to discover a variety of natural treasures. Like its sister islands, St. John features lush rainforests, powdery sand beaches and crystal-clear water brimming with ocean life. So snorkeling and diving are must-do activities during your St. John villa vacation. A great place to start is the spectacular Trunk Bay Beach and National Park, where you’ll find long stretches of beach, calm surf and underwater snorkeling and diving trails with signs to guide you through the aquatic paradise.
The beaches aren’t the only highlight, however. You can explore the inland island terrain on horseback, by bike or on foot along one of the many hiking or riding trails. The most popular is the Reef Bay Trail in Virgin Islands National Park, which leads you through the rainforest—watch for the colorful tropical birds—to where you can see the ruins of colonial-era sugar estates and rock engravings called petroglyphs created by Arawak Indians. And of course, more modern Caribbean handiwork, like baskets, ceramics, woodwork and glassware is available for sale in Cruz Bay’s charming shops.
