Finish up the winter season with a Colorado ski vacation

February 10, 2012

As the end of the winter season nears, families are rapidly booking their final ski vacations before the ideal snow conditions have passed. The question is, where should you book your villa rental?

National Geographic recently rated the top 25 ski towns from around the world. One U.S. state that made the list four times is Colorado. Whether you choose to ski in Vail, Aspen or Steamboat Springs, a villa rental in the U.S. ski capital can be the perfect way to end your winter.

For serious skiers, Aspen offers some of the steepest trails in the state. Often a popular venue for speed skiing competitions, the mountain resort is the home of Christy Mahon, the first woman to ski all of Colorado's 14,000-foot peaks as well as the development director for the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. She shared with National Geographic her favorite trails.

"The long face of Bell Mountain on Aspen catches the late afternoon sun and is the best way to end the perfect ski day," Mahon stated.

Booking villa rentals in Vail, Colorado, can also provide you with a fulfilling winter excursion. With the annual winter and summer Teva Mountain Games, the trails become buzzing with excited spectators and seasoned competitors. Not only are the slopes some of the best in the country, but the apres ski activities are hard to match, according to The Huffington Post. After a long day on the slopes, stop into the Vail Cascade and warm up with one of their micro brews or craft beers.
