US Virgin Islands Ignite a Revamped Tourism Plan

January 11, 2012

To kick off its busy season, the U.S. Virgin Islands has launched the start of a five-year strategic tourism plan for future travelers booking island villa rentals. The plan will include brand new attractions that may entice more travelers to visit the island's white, sandy beaches and crystal clear waters.

Airlines such as JetBlue have initiated additional nonstop flights to the islands as more vacationers are likely to book flights in the coming months. The carrier launched a continuous Boston-St. Thomas flight this past December that will operate five days a week.

Starting this month, a series of meetings will take place to brainstorm ideas to boost tourism on the islands. Industry experts will present the results this spring, providing ideas on visitor experience, trends and areas that may need improvement.

If your vacation desires can't wait for the new tourism plan, consider booking a villa rental to St. Thomas this year, where some new attractions have already settled. Hassel Island, a nearby plot of land that was originally privately owned, is now an adventure destination for individuals who want to explore the remains of a British fort on site or its abundance of newly formed hiking trails.

Reserving villa rentals like Seabright at St. Thomas will also allow you to act out your best pirate impersonation on the Treasure Seeker tour around Hassel and Water Islands. A bright-red, converted car ferry guides you on a two-hour adventure, revealing legendary stories of the islands while offering the best views of the tropical land-and-seascapes.
