Italy is famous for many things – iconic works of art, sweeping architecture, and glamorous runways – but none so much as its contributions to the culinary world. And to us, no villa vacation in Italy is complete without experiencing them. That’s why our team has put together a few new experiences to help you enjoy your trip even more. From hunting for treasured truffles to tasting award-winning olive oil, these experiences easily combine two of life’s greatest pleasures: food and travel.
Heading to Sicily? Don’t miss your chance to visit Azienda Agricola Ravida. Don’t miss your chance to visit Azienda Agricola Ravida. This award-winning olive oil producer is where Mrs. Natalia Ravida, a famous Sicilian chef and author of Seasons of Sicily, can host special visits. Recently, a group of our guests had the opportunity to experience estate, enjoying an olive oil tasting, followed by aperitifs and a typical Sicilian lunch at the Ravida’s family estate in Menfi.
If your villa vacation takes you to Tuscany, a truffle hunt may be in your future – especially if your trip is in the late fall, or early winter. That’s the best time for harvesting the coveted white truffles of San Miniato. On this experience, you can walk through the woods of an exclusive organic reserve accompanied by a tartufaio (truffle hunter) and his trained dog. A local guide will walk with the group and explain the characteristics of the white truffle, as well as the tradition of finding them in the region.
After the hunt, a rustic aperitif of local organic cheese and salami is served, followed by a truffle-based lunch. And, of course, the meal is accompanied by delicious Chianti.
Two words: authentic pizza. When you visit the Amalfi Coast, we can arrange for you to experience delicious custom pizzas that are created for you in your very own villa. The expert hands of an authentic pizzaiolo will create the pie using local, fresh ingredients. And, as a bonus, the pizza will be named after you.
